Maternity Style

I will be the first to admit that I don’t care that much about being in style.  In fact, I would say that I dress primarily for comfort and practicality, not for fashion’s sake.  If it’s cold out, I dress warmly, no matter what!  I am still wearing sweaters I bought on clearance at GAP 7 years ago because I still like the way they look.  I often choose not to purchase trendy items because I know they will go out of style the following season.  I also feel it’s wasteful to spend a lot of money on clothing- especially when our family has only one income.

Since I’ve had Lula, so many people have been so generous with clothing for her that I am put to shame when I compare her wardrobe to mine.  She had a pair of Minnetonka Moccasins before I did.
She has ten thousand dresses which she rocked last summer into fall.

And her leggings and jeggings…oh my goodness.

Her cute wardrobe is prompting me to pay a little more attention to mine.
We went to Target the other day in the hopes of finding a pair of maternity jeggings for moi.  I really want a pair of jeans that are stretchy and comfortable, now that my regular jeans are getting to the point where I don’t want to stretch them out.  I was hopeful that Target might have what I was looking for.  Alas, no luck.  But, I did find a pair of maternity leggings- something I have never been brave enough to wear before.
.
I think they look surprisingly good on me and since I had a gift card, I was able to justify the purchase.
However, I really want to find a pair of jeggings too- I’ve got plenty of maternity skirts and dresses and am trying to be reasonable and practical about the fact that I won’t be wearing this stuff after July/August of this year but still…getting something cute and new occasionally is a mood lifter.  At least for me!
I’ve found that GAP offers the best choices of the maternity legging style jean.  I found this pair and love them:
But how can I spend $45 on jeans I am only going to wear for 6 months?  Old Navy has some reasonable prices and some fun colored jeggings but being a classic girl, I want the traditional denim ones so I can wear them with anything.
7 For All Mankind maternity jeans?  I definitely can’t justify that- I don’t even have a pair now!  :)
I hope to find a pair of jeggings at some point in the near future- I am also considering checking out thrift shops for a used pair instead of buying them new.
Other places I should look?

  1. I got an awesome pair last winter when I was pregnant at forever 21 for 9.90! They are surprisingly good quality and even fit from week 16-40 very comfortably. They are still in good shape for next time even though I wore them 3 times per week last time! I think the line is called Love and pretty sure it’s online too.

  2. Those gap jean leggings are wonderful I wore them my whole pregnancy. Amazon sometimes has stuff like that for cheaper.

Those leggings look great I definitely like them a whole lot more now after my first baby. They are comfortable, stretchy, and you can wear a cute top or comfy sweater with them. Very easy

    • Thanks Jen! And thank you very much for the feedback about the GAP jeans. I really, really want them and will definitely check out Amazon too. Even though those Target leggings are maternity, I’m thinking I am going to wear them afterwards too…especially as my body recovers. :)

    • Awwww, thanks for the compliment Marleen. I can’t wait to start wearing them, as soon as it warms up a little bit more. I am very grateful for the other maternity clothing I have- I got a lot of it from my sister and other friends and feel extremely fortunate.

  3. I don’t know your finances, but if it helps I wouldn’t bat an eye at $45 for a pair of maternity jeans that made me feel good. A changing body is hard enough and I do believe if you are going to splurge on one expensive fashion item, pregnant or not, that a good pair of jeans is it. I’m a fashion enabler.

    • And this is why I love you…giving me permission to go buy some expensive jeans- you rock! :) I hope to make a purchase in the next week or two and I agree, it’s definitely about feeling good. I don’t want to go through this pregnancy feeling gross and sloppy, you know? Thanks buddy!

  4. We have the SAME thoughts on fashion. It’s so hard for me to commit to buying anything that isn’t functional and is going to lat a long time. I’ve tried to be trendy and it just doesn’t work for me.
I think the Target leggings look great on you! Love that tiny bump you’re rocking :)

    • I am so glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about fashion. It seems like it is a full-time job to try to be in style and I guess I just don’t care that much. Also, I am certain I would look ridiculous in about 80% of what is trendy right now. :) Thanks for the compliment- I feel huge, so hearing my bump described as tiny sounds great! :D

  5. Those GAP jeans look fantastic. Let me ask you – I’ve contemplated buying them, but wonder if I should get regular or long — what do you go with when you get jeans from GAP?

    • Hi Jenny! I would say that it really depends on how tall you are. I am 5’9″ and have gotten the Long and Lean style from the Gap in both regular and long and I regretted buying the long. They tend to stretch a little bit and even with a belt, were brushing the ground unless I was wearing clogs.
That said, I got the maternity skinny jeans in a long and those are great- maybe in part because they are skinny jeans so they can’t really go below the ankle the way boot cut jeans can? HOpe that helps!
