Weekend in Review: 7.28 & 7.29

Happy Monday!

How was the weekend?

We had a nice weekend filled with swimming, reading, shopping, attempts at crawling, and lots of Olympic watching.

Friday night after Lula was in bed, Pa and I watched the Olympic opening ceremonies.  I’ve got to say, I thought the opening ceremonies were, overall, too artsy for me to enjoy.  I liked the pastoral scenes and the Industrial Revolution but after that, I started zoning out.  If Matt and Meredith hadn’t been narrating, there would have been lots of things that wouldn’t have made any sense at all.  Overall, there was just too much going on and for an audience to watch it once, it couldn’t be fully appreciated, in my opinion.

Saturday morning was cool again!  62 degrees?  We’ll take it!  We got in a nice six miles before getting home and getting Lula down for her morning nap.

The big trip of the day was to Home Depot to pick up the final pieces for Lula’s birthday gift that Pa is making her.

She and I danced around the store (it was dead in there) and enjoyed getting out of the house thoroughly!

We had a nice leisurely lunch at the table, and after a skipped afternoon nap, due in large part to this,

please excuse the grainy IPhone photo...

Lula and I made our way to the baby pool out back.  The water was a little chilly since we had filled the pool that afternoon but we still had a really good time out there.

Since she skipped her afternoon nap, she was worn out by 6:30.  Bath time and some yummy cereal rounded out her evening, she fell asleep nursing, and Pa and I were free!

We drank a well-deserved beer, grilled burgers, and enjoyed some Olympic watching until bedtime.

Sunday was kind of a rough day for Lula.  She struggled with her naps and bedtime and I tried to stay positive, even though she was “sapping my strength,” as Elaine would say.

Her morning nap was hard to come by, lasted less than an hour, and she was fairly cranky after that.

She and I took our weekly trek to the outlets nearby our house and wandered around Carter’s and the GAP Outlet.  Everything was 40% off at Carter’s but since most things are already on sale on a normal day, and those sales weren’t also taking place, I didn’t think prices were much of a bargain.  They had some cute ballet flats but they were $12!  I can get ballet flats for myself  at that price (or less) so we passed on those.

The evening found us poolside once again- it was 107.8 degrees when we were out there but since we stayed in the shade and the cool water, it really wasn’t that bad!

I thought that with pool time, Lula would pass out easily at bedtime, but I was mistaken.  Twice I went back to her room and she was standing up in her crib…I think it was almost 8 PM before she finally fell asleep for the night.

We’ve got errands to run today and I hope to get to the city pool with her at least once this week as well.  Have a fantastic Monday!

  1. I bought the boy a crab pool, but with all the house stuff have yet to blow it up. I hope he likes it!! We went to see goats for his first time yesterday. There were some tears, but I think it was more being in the stroller so low to the ground with all the people in the barn than the goats. We tried an hour later this time holding him and he was fine. Less than impressed with the goats, but no crying. We are currently snuggling in the padded rocker as my guy is fighting the nap this morming too. Must get lonely in that crib.

    • Yay for a pool! The eight dollar purchase of ours was one of the best decisions I made for the summer! It is so convenient and it wears her out!!
That is so cute that your guy got to see the goats!
I am glad he is content to snuggle when he doesn’t want to nap…Lula is not a big fan of sitting still. Hopefully she will be more cuddly as she gets older.

  2. Girl, I am in nap hell. Audrey was literally awake from 530 am this morning until 7 pm this evening (plus a nursing session at 415 this morning). Not going to lie, some tears were shed this morning (by both of us) when she kept refusing to nap. Maybe there is some major milestone happening? Or she wants to ensure she is an only sibling? ;) . She’s lucky she is cute!

    • I think these babies are tweeting and blogging to conspire against us! Lula napped for thirty minutes in the car today- I cried a lot. My patience was definitely lacking today…it is soooo hard when us mommas can’t catch a break! I hope she sleeps well tonight!!!

  3. Such a great weekend you all had. We too have watched so much Olympic games. I love that pink dress your little girl is in. That’s so cute. One can dress little girls up so beautifully. Boys on the other not :(

    • Thanks, Marleen! Whenever I shop for my nephews, clothing is pretty slim pickings but the girly stuff available? I guess it speaks volumes about what our society is like. :)

  4. Alyssa was my nap fighter. Cassidy begs me “night night” like an hour after she wakes up. Alyssa would get stuck standing up in her crib as well and it was an issue for a month or so. Staying calm and not stressing about it is SO hard. Children test your patience like nothing else for sure!

    • I am learning how to stay calm- I think! She just looks so sad when I go back there and she is crying that I can’t help but to just want to sooth her. Thanks for your thoughts on how long this will last for. It’s always something, huh? ;)
