Welcome to RunMaRun or welcome back if you stopped by last Thursday!
I really enjoyed doing this last week and I’m glad Brittany is hosting- I know that Lula’s meals are far from exciting but it was so fun to oooooh and ahhhhh over what other mommas are feeding their little ones so for the sense of community, hopefully I can keep on contributing.
Since we don’t do as much real food within a given day and since no one needs to see 5 more photos of me with a baby’s head near my chest, I thought I would feature some of the items she’s enjoyed this week.
Avocados were on sale at the store so they have been featured in many of her lunches recently!
I thought it would be cute to take a few shots of her gumming around with the avocado. The only problem with this?
Ummm, she has teeth.
And here’s the proof.
I guess I forgot.
What I normally do is slice a decent size piece of avocado and break off chunks and let her chew on them. I usually feed her the chunks myself. Things like avocado and banana are so slippery that she can’t seem to do much with them if I hand them to her.
You might be thinking, well Kelly, why is Lula sitting in a Babysitter Balance instead of a high chair, where you could easily put little bits of food in front of her?
Good question!
We do have a high chair- it was actually Pa’s high chair- which means it’s not up to regulation.
We aren’t the kind of people who are too worried about that (although it begs the question- how did so many of us make it who were born in the very late 1970s; what with unsafe high chairs, drop-side cribs, and being put to sleep on our bellies) but it does need a strap to keep Miss Lula secure. Pa and I hope to tackle that DIY project this weekend but until then, Lula is fed by Momma in a bouncy chair.
I’ve been doing more purees too, mainly because my garden produce is ramping up quickly and I don’t want it to spoil. Purees are a great way to make a lot of something and freeze the extra.
We were given a Baby Bullet when Lula was born and I’ve been pretty impressed with it so far.
Other foods Lula has enjoyed this week include more sweet potato puree, zucchini puree (this stuff is so mild), and turnip puree. Okay, I won’t say she’s enjoyed the turnip puree…
I gave her a few spoons last week and she was willing to give it a try but it wasn’t her favorite. This week not much has changed and since I don’t even like the taste of it, I think I will forego giving her more, at least for now!
Once we gave up on turnip, sweet potato puree was next in line and she was very pleased with the change!
Her one true love that has withstood the test of her short time spent outdoors, however, is grass.
She loves ripping out fistfuls of it and getting a little on her face. In all seriousness, I don’t think she really gets any of it in her mouth and grass can keep her occupied for a looooong time.
Thanks again to Brittany for the genius idea that has created this community of mommas.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Cassidy loves pulling grass out too. Although I definitrely have to fish it out of her mouth from time to time!
Haha! Maybe I should be looking in her mouth more carefully!
I love those little bottles that the puree is in. What numbers are on them? What are they for?
I’m glad your little one loves Avo’s. My 5 year old is struggling to like them.
I know, they are super cute. Good question- the numbers are so that you can put the date the puree was made so you know how old it is…very clever!
I am pleased that she likes avocados but I suspect when she’s 5, she might not like them as much…who knows! It’s great you are trying them out with your 5 year old though!
Thanks for the comment on my (age old) blog. I am loving this Munchkin Meals thing and seeing what other babies are eating. Good luck with your little sweetie!
Thanks for reading and commenting on mine!
1. Sam loves to eat grass, too. And sticks and dirt.
2. When we visit my parents, we put Sam in a beautiful wooden high chair that dates back to the 1950s! It no longer has a strap, but we secure him with a belt. And sit right beside him, obviously.
3. When do you plan to introduce “real food” to Lula? Sam’s first favorites were also bananas and avocados. Also roasted sweet potatoes and apples.
Thanks for commenting, Emily!!
Sticks and dirt? Oh wow!
That is too funny about old school highchairs! They are so much cooler looking!
Well, I am willing to BF until Lula wants to wean- I am not talking TIME magazine cover girl style but I suspect she will naturally wean between a year and 18 months. Meanwhile, we will keep introducing new foods to her and see what happens!
Lula is adorable! Avocado is the first “solid” that Liam has seemed to enjoy.
Thank you so much for commenting and visiting!!
