Pool time!

A month or so ago, Pa and I found this eight dollar inflatable pool at Target and decided we had to have it for Lula. July and August are brutal around here- we’re talking almost every day in the 90s- so finding an easy way to cool off was definitely in order.

Since Memorial Day weekend was so hot, it was the perfect time to try out the pool.

I published a swimming post a month or so ago asking people for ideas about outfitting Miss Lula for swimming.  Bobbie suggested reusable swim bottoms so I got this pair on amazon and they work really well.It was weird putting these on Lula with no diaper underneath.

We put on her swimsuit next- my Mom bought it for her when we stopped in Carter’s a few months ago.  This is a 12 month suit so she could grow into it- clearly it isn’t loose though.

Pa had filled up the pool earlier in the day with the hose and even after sitting in the sun on a hot day, it was still a little chilly so he brought out a few milk jugs filled with warm water, as I saw Ashley talk about here.

Lula was certainly tentative about getting in the water and kept taking extremely deep breaths through her nose- I’m sure the water shocked her as happens to me sometimes when I swim.  She did a lot of dancing around first and then we plopped down together.Sitting in the pool with her as shown above worked really well- I think my body heat kept her from getting too cold and it was a really easy way to hold onto her.  I don’t know anything about when babies can put their faces under water and I guess I err on the side of doing it later rather than earlier.

Once she got comfortable, she really went to town splashing around with both her legs and arms.

And then she discovered the side of the pool- a great place to try to bite!

I think she would have continued doing this forever if I had let her.  The pool does have a little give so it snapped back into her face a few times which startled her but she was back at it the next day when I took her out again so I guess she likes it?

Putting this cover-up on her after “swimming” may have been the only reason I got into the pool in the first place. She was certainly intrigued by something!

I suspect this pool is going to get quite a bit of use this summer.  I am always looking for events like this that she and I will both enjoy and this is a clear winner. We hope you have a great weekend!

  1. Oh, you found some swim diapers that work for you! Glad I could help! We’re planning on hitting up the pool next week (once it warms up again – we had a cold front come through). Lula looks like she had so much fun and she is super cute in her suit! – Bobbie

    • Yes- thank you again for your assistance. I think those are going to be great and she has some room in them so I am glad you recommended ordering big! Enjoy the pool- we need to get out there again too- what a great way to beat the heat! :)

  2. I LOVE that second last photo of her – looking inside :) So cute. Great shot you got there.
We also have a cheap, small pool like these for our kids. Just so that they can sit in it to cool off during summer months.

    • You can’t beat it for convenience, that’s for sure. I’m looking forward to introducing her to the many joys of the sprinkler too- we had a blast playing in that when we were kids!
