Randomness from my weekend

We savor our weekends around here.  Pa never has to work over the weekend unless he is prepping for a trial so it’s pretty much 24/7 family time at the RMR house.

My summation of the weekend?  The weather was wonderful, the sun was shining, and we had a blast.

Saturday:

I got to sit out on the deck during one of Lula’s naps and read for almost an hour- one of my favorite things to do!  We had family over for dinner on Saturday night.  On the menu was grilled chicken, a tossed salad, and sweet potato fries. I hope to have my simple recipe for the fries posted by the end of the week.

We also stayed up to watch the Kansas-Ohio State game on Saturday night.  That was a big deal for me and Pa- TV after ten o’clock at night?  What can I say, we party hard around here.  Pa and I were getting sleepy until KU rallied and started making baskets in the second half.  Why is it that KU so often creates a scoring deficit and then they come back as the game goes on?  It makes for a lot of anxiety for fans!  Some people in our neighborhood were so excited by the outcome that they decided to shoot off some fireworks at 10:30 PM.  Apparently just getting through the final four was enough reason to light fireworks?  I don’t understand.

Sunday:

I woke up to feed Lula around 5:15 on Sunday morning, put her back in her crib and she was crying at 6 so I fed her again.  She snoozed until 7 as did the rest of the family and by 9:30, I was out the door for a humid 5 miler while she napped.  During my run, I saw a man pushing a running stroller with a baby around Lula’s age and it perked me up to see that.  I was thinking a lot about the tragedy in VT (not running related) while I ran and it was nice to see some fellow runners on the road enjoying the weather with a baby.  In my experience, most runners are friendly people and seeing them frequently gives me a boost.

Pa, Lula and I took our Sunday walk to the gas station to pick up the newspaper- the only reason we buy it is for clipping coupons.

I finished up making my homemade diaper wipes yesterday afternoon and now I just need to decide on the solution I will douse them in.  I am excited to find a way to save even more money and will post the process soon!

Lula had a hard bedtime last night.First, she didn’t want to go to bed.  After 40 minutes of failed attempts, she finally fell asleep but around 8 PM, the same guys who were excited about KU’s victory on Saturday night decided to keep the celebration going by lighting off a few more really loud fireworks.  A minute later, cue screaming baby.  Screaming baby quieted down, then the screaming escalated.  Pa checked on her and she was on her belly with her foot caught in one of the crib slats.  So sad.  Suffice it to say, Pa and I were ready to crash last night.

I’m excited for the week ahead- the weather is supposed to be nice and Lula and I have been having a blast lately!

Oh yeah and although I don’t want to hear fireworks again at 10:30 tonight, Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, KU!

  1. Weekends are also a time we savour as my hubby also don’t work over weekends.
That meal looks very healthy and so delicious.
Shame :( Poor baby was scared on Saturday night. Maybe she was scared of the same noises, that’s why she gave you two a hard time on Sunday night as well.

  2. I’m glad you have weekends with your hubby too. Good point about the scare- she also had a rough night last night- she was up an hour and a half past her bedtime! Ugh. This morning, I put dark fabric behind her curtains so it is super dark in there now. I’m hoping that helps.
